There has always been the suggestion that all diabetic patients present with periodontitis. In fact, diabetes is a risk factor for all kinds of secondary infectious diseases, amongst which periodontitis.

Given their particular condition, these patients must take extra care of their teeth and, particularly, of their periodontal status. Check-ups should be more frequent so the dentist can monitor periodontal health.

It has been scientifically proven that this type of patient has a higher probability of losing teeth than a healthy patient. Therefore, this type of patient needs to exercise special care.
