Completing an orthodontic treatment can take from one to three years. However some minor defects can be corrected in a few months.
The length of the treatment will depend on the severity of the problem, the patient’s anatomy and also his collaboration. In many cases the orthodontist will provide instructions that must be followed in order to obtain an optimal result.
Once the treatment has been finalised it may be necessary to use a retainer on the inside of the teeth to avoid the teeth going back to their original position.
The orthodontist will need to take some photographs, x rays and study models to be able to obtain an accurate diagnosis, advice on the best course of treatment and also on how long it will take to complete that treatment.
Even with all the tests and information, the lenght of the treatment can vary depending on the patient’s response.
Another important factor for a successful treatment will be to attend every appointment. If the patient is unable to attend one appointment it should be communicated and another one booked for the closest available date.
