What are veneers?

Carillas dentales

Veneers are a type of dental prosthesis which only cover the lip-facing side of teeth and which essentially do not require prior reduction in the thickness of the tooth. The difference between veneers and crowns is that they are very thin layers.

They may be in composite (a material which adheres to the teeth) or porcelain (a laboratory-made material which is cemented to the teeth).

The material used for this treatment has a highly aesthetic component to it, as it tends to be used for anterior teeth.

Not all patients can receive this type of treatment. Bruxism (teeth-grinding) and dental crowding are taken into consideration.

These veneers are fixed to the tooth using a special cement for this purpose; thus, it is very unlikely they will detach. Even so, the aesthetic specialist will provide a series of recommendations to these patients to make this treatment more long-lasting.
